"The Day the Mountain Blew Apart"

Hi, on Literature, with Victoria Gregov, we read "The Day the Mountain Blew Apart" thath it was about the eruption of Mt. St. Helen in Washington, and this happened on May 18th 1980.
This story is an "Historical Narrative" because is something that happend in real life.

Intro:
  • A volcano erupted in washingtonon May 18th, 1980.
  • Jerry wheeler and David Johnston were there when the eruption ocurred. Wheeler survived and Johnston died.
  • The magma had been rising and pushing inside the mountain, making it expand until the breakig point.
Consequences of the eruption:
  • 57 people died.
  • The forest was totally destroyed.
  • Steam, smoke and ashes came out of the mountai covering everything that was near.
  • Works, shops and schools were closed.
  • "Ghost town"- people stayed inside their houses because they couldn´t breathe.
  • Many species died.
  • Everything was black.
  • A huge crater was left on top of the mountain.
Coming back to life:

  • Gophers worked like plows bringing the rich soil to the surface.
  • The forest will take many years to recover.
  • Elk bones help flowers to grow.

My opinion: I think that it was very tragic, but there were lucky because it erupted on Sunday and there weren´t so much people in the street.
